5 Steps to Start Your Online Business with Limited Resources

Since 2009, the establishment of self-employment status has aimed to facilitate the creation of entrepreneurs and business, has multiplied over the years. Indeed, it is now possible, with a few clicks on the internet, to create your own business. At the same time, there has been a real development of the internet, especially for e-commerce sector. The e-commerce market is actually in full expansion, as the development of the internet and new technologies allows people to promote their products online. Phones, tablets and computers are ubiquitous in our daily lives. On the web, we find a product catalog much wider than in a physical store.

It is important to understand how the web works, how to select its activity, and especially to adopt the right techniques to be visible to its target. In this article, you will discover 5 steps to start your online business with limited resources.

  1. Natural Referencing, SEO

Once your website is created, it is mandatory to spend a lot of time every day to make it known. For this reason, the main method to adopt is “natural referencing” also called “SEO”(meaning Search Engine Optimization). Positioning your site on the first Google page is a necessity because few users will navigate beyond the first page of Google Search. It is essential to analyze the market you wants to settle in. Your goal is to take advantage of a sector or activity with strong potential. After defining this market, the choice of keywords for your Google rank position  is very important. With Google’s keyword generator (Google Adwords), you will be able to see the keywords that are the most typed in the Google search engine and of course, the ones related to your sector.

  1. Backlinks

Backlinks are one of the most important factor to increment your SEO. Backlinks can be externals and internals but their main purpose is to optimize the traffic on your website. As backlinks, we can cite: link ninja (comment actively on blog articles by leaving a link to your website), survey, quiz or send a free product to blogger/influencer (they will write an article about your product, including a link to your website). Never forget to track, scale and monitor your action with Google Search Console tool.

  1. Blogs

The creation of your own blogging network will be one of the most effective step for your SEO. Indeed, when these blog articles are linked to your website: the higher the traffic to your website, the higher you will appear in the Google Search Ranking. To monitor if the keywords have been optimized, Google Analytics will see who visit your site, and even be able to analyze from where your visitors came from and which sites has lead them to your website. You have to link all your blog articles (semantic cocoon strategy) to enhance the SEO.

  1. Social Networks

In addition to the natural referencing strategy, a development of your brand image on social networks is a powerful strategy if you manage to federate an active community. It is through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and mainly Instagram (we will develop more about this platform in Step 5) that you increase your marketing operations to expand your community and your brand recognition. On Facebook, you can develop a page dedicated to your products/services in order to drive more visitors to your website thanks to 2 tools: a chatbot (to answer basic questions) and Facebook lives (to show your engagement with the audience). Never forget to reply to negative comments.

  1. Product placement and affiliate marketing

Nowadays, it is necessary to realize a veritable hunt of bloggers on Instagram. As an e-shop, you have to create an Instagram page. Then, you begin by following bloggers especially with a huge fan followers. When you find the right people for your product, you follow them and you contact them by mail or by private message directly. In other words, you are going to offer a collaboration.

You are going to ask the blogger to choose one or two products on your website that they would like to wear. You will send them the product for free. In return, the blogger must write one or two Instagram posts by promoting your products and by identifying your brand with a direct link to your Instagram page. Sometimes conditions are one or two posts, sometimes it can be one post and one story … it depends. You can also give a promo code to distribute. And if your promo code is used, meaning the blogger are bringing you some clients, you can also suggest to continue the collaboration or a game contest.

This technique is called product placement or affiliate marketing. Thanks to these techniques, bloggers can take advantage of discovering new brands within their community while increasing their number of followers and gaining free outfit. On the other hand, brands make themselves known, increase their notoriety and have to spend less on advertisement.

Considering this technique, brands would not have to spend too much money, they just need to send a product for free and in return they increase their brand recognition.

After a certain level of brand recognition, you can always have additional paying option, in return for higher cost and risk….
