Digital Marketing: A Buoyant Job Market in France

Digital Me Up standard featured imageAPEC (an independent employment agency in France) indicates that 1500 digital marketing professionals will be recruited in 2018. The Paris region (Ile-de-France) represents the majority of hires. Digital companies and big businesses indeed require people with competent marketing background to manage their digital media channels and data-driven marketing operations. “Demand in that area is substantial and will only increase in future”, says Yann Gourvennec, Program Director of the Advanced Master’s in Digital Business Strategy at GEM (Grenoble Ecole de Management).

These programs are relatively recent. The advanced master’s degree at GEM was launched five years ago, and Audencia’s master’s degree Marketing Strategies in the Digital Age was created four years ago. These courses favour interactive training methods based on practical assignments and live business cases. Many lecturers are professionals who deliver lectures and engage in discussions with the class, which rarely exceeds 40 students. The range of profiles is broad: engineers, business school graduates, management academics, pharmacists, lawyers, and so on. “Beginners come to specialize, while more experienced professionals want to move jobs. The later see this opportunity to move forward even though they have found themselves in a deadlock,” explains Anne Launois, Academic Director of Audencia’s master degree Marketing Strategies in the Digital Age.

Audencia graduates complete their internships in luxury goods, cosmetics, agribusiness and consulting. “This year they joined as product manager assistants, digital project manager assistants, consultants, and junior analysts. The internship often corresponds to a probation period followed by a firm employment contract”, mentions Anne Launois.

€80,000 to €150,000 euros per annum for experienced professionals

GEM and Neoma Business School have built their programs so that students can work alongside their studies. “Last year, almost all of the participants were employed at the end of their studies”, says Françoise Collard, head of Master’s in Marketing and Data Analytics at Neoma Business School. Many experienced executives embark on entrepreneurship and go on to create their own company. The gross annual salary of a young graduate is between €35 and 45,000. “The position of digital director is very prominent. An experienced professional trained in digital marketing will earn between 80,000 and 150,000 euros gross per year” says Yann Gourvennec.
